HISTORY
The Newton Abbot Civic Society was founded in 1997 by Keith Stokes-Smith, Lord of Newton Abbot Borough Town and was chaired by him until 2003 when he became the Societies President. It is a registered charity (1068560) with two trustees and an adopted Constitution.
The charities objects as registered with the Charity Commission are;
“IMPROVE THE ENVIRONMENT WITHIN NEWTON ABBOT BE THAT VISUALLY, QUALITY OF LIFE OR PRESERVATION/CONSERVATION OF INTERESTING AND OR UNIQUE FEATURES.”
Although more detailed objects are available to members/potential members. The day to day activities of the Society are run by its members with a core ‘executive’ group as its Officers. The Society meets regularly with membership numbers varying from year to year .For the most part its income is dependent upon membership subscriptions and it has always operated in credit.
