Newton Abbot Civic Society was founded in 1997 by Keith Stokes-Smith, Lord of Newton Abbot Borough Town, and was chaired by him until 2003 when he became the Societies’ President.

 

It is a registered charity (1068560) with an adopted Constitution. The charities objectives (as registered with the Charity Commission) are to “Improve the environment within Newton Abbot be that visually, quality of life or preservation/conservation of interesting and/or unique features”.

 

The day to day activities of the Society are run by its members, with a core ‘executive’ group as its Officers. The Society meets regularly, and all are welcome. For the most part its income is dependent upon membership subscriptions, and it has always operated in credit.
